Very few banks remained in operation during the war and there was little circulation of the Afghani, Afghanistan's local currency, due to its serious devaluation. Other banks were destroyed or looted after the Taliban left. US-ARC will look into micro-financing projects to help people get back on their feet. A universal, reliable banking system has to be introduced to regain the people's confidence in entrusting their savings in such institutions.
