US-ARC and its local implementing partner, Global ARO, have established a vocational academy in the western city of Herat to develop a skilled labor force and assist in establishing a diversified and self sustaining local economy. Currently 150 students attend the academy through various classes but our goals are to expand and improve the program to serve the larger development needs of Herat province. We are partnering with AJWS, a New York based foundation to enhance existing programs and to introduce new certificate degree programs. Meanwhile, to complement these programs with applied training, we are seeking funds to establish a production center within the facility that will offer services to the community, contribute to the sustainability of the institution and create a venue where students can obtain practical experience. We NEED YOUR HELP to repair the production facility and purchase the necessary supplies and equipment.

Godah Girls' Primary School |
|
US-ARC assists local organizations to establish the first ever girls' school in Godah, Wardak with the overwhelming support of the local community. However, establishing the school had its challenges. In June 2005, the school was set on fire, destroying the tents and school equipment. The community, despite the knowledge that the arson was the work of the Taliban who could hurt them again, reinforced their commitment to educating their daughters. The tents and some of the equipment have since been replaced but the vulnerability to future threats remain. WE NEED YOUR HELP to build the girls in Wardak a safe and permanent space to continue their education. Furthermore we need a wider capacity to reach girls in neighboring villages Your contribution would help us:
1) Raise all the funds we need to BUILD A SAFE SCHOOL.
2) Purchase the necessary CLASSROOM FURNITURE.
3) Pay TEACHER SALARIES.
4) Provide a HEALTHY SNACK to students.

Dairy Industry Revitalization in Afghanistan |
|
US-ARC and its local partner, Global ARO, are implementing a Dairy Industry Revitalization Project (DIRA) in Parwan, Bagram and Kunduz Afghanistan. Families in this region are mainly farmers who rely on the sale of dairy products to supplement their subsistence incomes. Over the last 1 ½ years the project has had tangible influence in reducing disease and increasing production for participating families. However, there are clusters of families that are unable to participate in our project. Many have lost their cattle to disease, drought and war while others are keeping infected animals that must be culled to control the spread of disease. We NEED YOUR HELP to reach these families and expand the reach of our work. With your donation we can purchase cattle for families that have lost their animals and replace sick animals. Our goal is to assist about 100 families this year. One hundred percent of your donation will go to the cattle restocking aspect of the program.

US-ARC’s Capacity |
|
US-ARC needs general operating funds to continue expanding current programs and to establish other grassroots programs with local participation. Your donation would support our staff both in Washington and Kabul to carry out their mission of ‘building one community at time’ throughout Afghanistan.
